SERIES DESCRIPTION
The Warner Electric UM-C Series UniModule line features pre-assembled, one-piece clutch and clutch/brake packages engineered with ceramic friction material for maximum performance and direct installation convenience. Factory pre-burnished to deliver full rated torque right out-of-the-box, these enclosed, maintenance-free units easily mount to standard NEMA C-face motors and reducers or operate as separate drive units via an accessory base. The UM-C series is designed specifically for rapid cycling, high-speed applications, leveraging a ceramic layout to dramatically extend component life.
FEATURES
- Factory Pre-Burnished: Packages are completely run-in at the factory to provide rated torque performance immediately upon start-up.
- The Ceramic Difference: Ceramic friction surfaces provide excellent wear resistance that extends operational life 3 to 5 times over standard clutch/brake units in demanding, high cycle applications.
- Consistent Torque Repeatability: Features preloaded armatures that keep the ceramic friction faces lightly in contact to ensure precise dynamic torque response and eliminate the need for Autogapâ„¢ mechanisms.
- Reduced Variation: Cycle-to-cycle start and stop variation is reduced by up to 30% compared to standard configurations, achieving exceptional accuracy.
- Controllability: Delivers high-performance positioning matching more expensive motion control setups when paired with CBC-700 over-excitation or CBC-300 controls.
- Rugged Versatility: Available across three industrial frame sizes (50, 180, and 210) to easily interface with industry-standard power transmission components.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
- Select Mounting Profile: Determine if your layout requires direct C-face integration to a motor/reducer (1020 Configuration) or an isolated shaft-to-shaft separate drive design (2030 Configuration).
- Match NEMA Frame Dimensions: For direct motor attachment, select the matching UniModule size from the Frame Size chart to align with standard motor frame sizes like 56C or 182C.
- Analyze Thermal Requirements: Review your operating environment carefully; friction surfaces slip during initial engagement, meaning calculated thermal curves must never exceed internal housing limitations to guard insulation and bearing life.
- Apply Technical Sizing Formulae: Compute expected heat loading using $E = 1.7 \times WR^2 \times (N/100)^2 \times F$ to secure a unit matching torque and cycling constraints.
HOW TO ORDER
- Identify Sizing Suffix: Combine the core model size designation with the operational combination prefix, such as UM 180-2030-C.
- Define Coil Voltage: Select from standard direct current industrial power supplies by designating a 6V, 24V, or 90V DC coil part number.
- Incorporate Mounting Kits: Stiffen motor layouts with optional heavy-duty motor mount brackets, or add an independent foot plate kit for freestanding base applications.
- Select Upgraded Controls & Wiring: Complete system hookups with NEMA 4 rated conduit boxes or performance-driven over-excitation control modules.
