SERIES DESCRIPTION
The Warner Electric UM Series UniModule line features completely pre-assembled, one-piece clutch and clutch/brake packages engineered for maximum performance and direct installation convenience. Factory pre-aligned and pre-burnished to deliver full rated dynamic torque right out-of-the-box, these enclosed, maintenance-free units easily mount to standard NEMA C-face motors and reducers or operate as separate drive units via an accessory base. Available across five compact sizes with options for power-on or power-off electrically released configurations, the UM series utilizes a symmetric finned housing and integrated fan cooling to reliably sustain high cycle rates in demanding industrial indexing applications.
FEATURES
- Factory Pre-Burnished: Packages are completely assembled, aligned, and run-in at the factory to achieve rated torque immediately upon field installation.
- Patented Autogapâ„¢: Built-in mechanisms automatically adjust armatures to compensate for mechanical wear, maintaining proper running gaps and ensuring maintenance-free longevity.
- Optimized Heat Dissipation: Constructed with a high-efficiency symmetric housing fin design and standard fan cooling to sustain high cycle rates and guard internal coil insulation integrity.
- Heavy-Duty Concentricity: Utilizes premium, rigid internal bearing arrangements to preserve tight shaft concentricity, minimizing running noise, vibration, and component wear factors.
- Asbestos-Free Friction Faces: Built using long-life, high-torque friction materials that facilitate clean, predictable stop and start operations.
- Simplified Conduit Access: Housing designs feature single conduit entrance areas situated cleanly on top of the units via integrated mounting bolts, keeping installation fast and simple.
- Enclosure Versatility: Vented layouts can be easily upgraded in the field using quick conversion cover kits to generate totally enclosed, non-washdown environments without swapping the assembly.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
- Select Unit Configuration: Establish if the system design dictates a direct C-face motor/reducer mount layout or an isolated base-mounted separate drive package.
- Identify Drive Combination Type: Choose the appropriate configuration code based on application requirements, such as a 3040 model for base-mounted shaft-to-shaft clutch setups or a 1020 model for combined clutch/brake motor operations.
- Verify NEMA Frame Alignment: Match the designated motor or reducer size against the Frame Size Selection chart to secure the proper unit size ranging from size 50 up to size 215.
- Analyze Thermal Loading: For fast cycle frequencies or large reflected inertia loads, apply the technical heat calculation formula E = 1.7 * WR^2 * (N/100)^2 * F to verify calculated values remain underneath maximum speed-to-heat curve allowances.
HOW TO ORDER
- Specify Base Unit Model: Choose the primary sizing suffix paired with the preferred operational arrangement number, such as UM-210-3040.
- Define System Voltage: Identify the operational direct current criteria to dictate the appropriate 6V, 24V, or 90V DC coil part designation.
- Select Mounting Accessories: Supplement base orders with corresponding optional base kits for freestanding shafts, or motor mounts for supported frame configurations.
- Incorporate Auxiliary Protection: Specify optional NEMA 4 rated conduit boxes or dual-vent cover kits if your environmental placement requires fully sealed, enclosed housings.
